![]() Corralby Dimitri Tiomkin (Limited Edition of 2000 Units) Superman Returns will remain a polarizing film for a variety of reasons however, Ottman’s score will forever be a bright spot for me. I love his original themes and the way he embodied the character. What Ottman brought to this film is really quite good. It didn’t always fit and sometimes took me out of the picture. Yes, it’s the music for Superman, but not this Superman. The appearances of John William’s music throughout the picture (except for the opening credits which I really loved) sort of annoyed me. I’m one who really admires what Ottman brought to this film. Superman Returns by John Ottman (2-CD Limited Edition of 3000 Units) I know I am and will be for probably the rest of the day. I’m sure you’re humming the main theme in your head right now as you read this. It laid the musical ground work for all the subsequent sequels and established the comedic tone for the series spearheaded by an infectious melody. Robert Folk’s rousing music for Police Academy (1984) has never been released before now. This is a bigger deal than you might think. Police Academyby Robert Folk (Limited Edition of 3000 Units) These four films helped define a generation and are finally available in one glorious box set! ![]() A bounty of previously unreleased score music is featured here, literally hours worth, along with bonus score tracks and knockout songs from the likes of Sting, Elton John, George Harrison, The Beach Boys and more – not to mention the Bobby Helms rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock, ” which opens the original LETHAL WEAPON! ” “The scores to LETHAL WEAPON 1-3 have been greatly expanded beyond their original soundtrack album presentations (the original soundtrack assemblies are remastered and presented as well.) and the score from LETHAL WEAPON 4 makes its world premiere with this set. Regarded amongst score fanatics as some of the best action music ever composed, La-La Land Records finally gives these four classic scores the royal treatment. These scores exist on LP and CD in woefully condensed capacities however, they have never really been given the proper attention they justly deserve. This is the “holy shit!” of the quarter (probably the year?). Lethal Weapon Soundtrack Collection by Michael Kamen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn (8-CD Limited Edition of 3000 Units) (image above) There’s never a been a better time to love film music than right now. Several boutique labels are cranking out titles left and right so I’ve assembled the most coveted titles just in time to fulfill your holiday wish lists. While it’s relatively easy to discover new soundtracks for current films, I find it challenging keeping up with older scores that are hitting the market either for the first time or as an expanded release. The soundtrack world is flooded with highly-coveted scores and while I’m suspecting the bubble may burst at any time, there seems to be no sign of stagnation. One of the more important responsibilities I possess as a film music writer is keeping the public connected with all the new scores being released on CD (and digitally) each and every week.
